Paedophile Shaun Sharp, formerly of Lydd, subjected children to horrific sex abuse

A former Lydd man has been jailed for life for a series of horrific sex attacks on children.

Sadist Shaun Sharp subjected his victims to humiliating abuse involving violence, cruelty and perversions.

The 57-year-old admitted 21 charges on the day he was due to stand trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

But prosecutor Daniel Stevenson said they involved at least 130 incidents of rape or sexual abuse going back more than 10 years.

Bearded Sharp, who has since moved to the West Country, sat impassive as details of the “horrific” attacks were outlined.

Judge Heather Norton said his victims had suffered “life-changing and life shattering” consequences which had robbed them of the childhood.

She said she had listened to “eloquent and heart-breaking “ victim impact statements read to the court on behalf of two of Sharp’s victims, who sat in the public gallery.

Judge Norton said the shocking details of Sharp’s grotesque abuse had stunned “even a judge who is well used to hearing the details of horrific sex attacks.”

Sharp was told that he had shown no remorse or empathy for what he had done – but had tried to blame others for his sordid behaviour.

“This was horrific abuse of children. I have considered whether the seriousness is such that they demand a sentence for life.” Judge Heather Norton

“This was horrific abuse of children. The length and breadth of your offending is such that I have considered whether the seriousness is such that they demand a sentence for life.

“There are some cases, not many, where the gravity of the offending demands the opprobrium of a life sentence and in my view this is one of those cases, “ she added.

Sharp was told he would have to serve at least 10 and a half years before he can even be considered for release – and even then won’t be released until the Parole Board believes it was safe for him to be allowed back into society.

Judge Norton passed life sentences on three of the offences – and a total of 149 years on the other 18 – all to run concurrently.

After Sharp was taken away to the cells, the judge told two of the victims that she couldn’t imagine what they had been through.

She then praised them for showing courage in coming forward saying: “You should be congratulated for that.”

Investigating officer Det Con Paris Cook said: “The offences committed by Shaun Sharp were abhorrent and will linger long in the memories of those he abused.

“He showed a complete disregard for their welfare and clearly poses a significant risk to children. Prison is the best place for him.

“The victims in this case have quite rightly been applauded for having the courage to speak up and report Sharp’s crimes.

“They are an inspiration to other victims of historic sexual abuse and have helped send a strong message that time is no barrier for such offences to be investigated.”

An NSPCC spokesman said: “Sharp subjected his victims to the most terrifying levels of abuse and his wicked actions have had a devastating effect on their lives.

“It takes an enormous amount of courage for abuse victims to speak out about their ordeal but this case shows once again that when they do they are listened to and predators like Sharp can be brought to justice.

“We hope Sharp’s sentence brings his victims some form of closure and that they have received all the support available to help them move forward with their lives.”

Paedophile teacher, 42, who ‘took away the innocence’ of a vulnerable underage girl he groomed for sex is jailed for a year

  • Simon Shaw, 42, admitted grooming the child and engaging in sexual activity
  • Shaw had been a teacher at the Andover Education Centre in Hampshire
  • The girl’s mother expressed outrage over Shaw’s ‘disgusting’ prison sentnance
  • She said Shaw had ‘taken away’ her daughter’s innoence and ‘ruined her life’

A disgraced teacher who ‘took away the innocence’ of a young girl he groomed for sex has been jailed for a year.

Simon Shaw, 42, will also be forced to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years, but the family of his victim has branded the sentence ‘disgusting’ and said Shaw ‘ruined her life’.

Judge Keith Cutler handed down a 12 month jail sentence at Winchester Crown Court, Hampshire, after Shaw – who was a teacher at Andover Education Centre in Andover – admitted engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Speaking after the hearing, the victim’s mother, said: ‘I think the sentence is disgusting. One year does not reflect what an awful time our family has had; it’s been a nightmare.

‘My daughter has had a very difficult time dealing with what happened to her. She genuinely thought he loved her.

‘He took her innocence away from her and he gets one year for that. We are disappointed with the sentence and we are going to try to move on with our lives, but how do you recover from that?

‘She was vulnerable. You think your child is going to be safe and she wasn’t, she was groomed. He ruined her life.’

Andover Education Centre works in partnership with secondary schools in the area to provide education for pupils who are not in mainstream schooling.

Shaw, of Chute, Wiltshire, was also given a restraining order forcing him to stay away from the victim, who was under 16 and cannot be named for legal reasons, and her family.

Detective Constable Timothy McSpadden, of Hampshire Constabulary, said: ‘Shaw embarked on an inappropriate relationship with a child.

‘These offences are taken extremely seriously and this is reflected in the fact that Shaw has now received a custodial sentence.’

Paedophile downloaded ‘most extreme pictures imaginable’ of newborn babies

Court hears Mark Anders, who also encouraged a six-year-old boy to be raped, has been “terrorised” in jail.

A paedophile who encouraged a six-year-old boy to be raped and downloaded the ‘most extreme pictures imaginable’ of newborn babies was jailed.

Mark Anders, 47, shared his sick stash with other perverts online and urged them to carry out abuse, telling one: “Rape kind of goes with the territory.”

He was today sentenced to six years in prison after prosecutors told Liverpool Crown Court: “More extreme [pictures] it is difficult to contemplate.”

Police found 1,150 indecent images on Anders’ mobile phone when they raided his home in Ingleton Drive, St Helens on June 14 this year.

Robert Jones, prosecuting, said they included 402 Category A – the most serious category – 328 Category B and 420 Category C pictures.

His collection featured videos of newborn babies being raped and he traded 175 of the files.

He was a member of a group called ‘Pics and Vids of Boys’ and chatted with fellow paedophiles on Kik Messenger.

On November 6, 2015 he discussed the abuse of a 15-year-old boy and received images of him.

He encouraged the other man to sexually assault the child and said: “If he’s 14, so much the better.”

On December 25 last year, Anders talked with another pervert about the abuse of a six-year-old boy, saying: “If you’re a boy lover as we are, then rape kind of goes with the territory.”

He gave another paedophile advice about abusing a 12 or 13-year-old boy on June 12 this year.

Mr Jones said: “It was a very depraved state of affairs.”

Anders admitted three counts of downloading, one of possessing and one of distributing indecent images of children.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of encouraging sexual assault of children. He has no previous convictions.

Robert Haygarth, defending, said Anders had already sought treatment and counselling.

He said: “He says ‘what I’ve done is appalling – if you look at the word remorse in the dictionary that is me’.”

Mr Haygarth described him as a “lonely and isolated” man, who helped his mum care for his dementia-suffering grandmother.

He said Anders, who considered suicide, had a heart condition which prevented him from working.

Mr Haygarth told the court Anders was “not of any great stature” and had been “bullied considerably” in prison, adding: “He has been terrorised.”

Judge Neil Flewitt, QC, said there was no evidence the boys referred to in the messages were actually molested.

However, he said: “You acknowledged the conversations were not just fantasy and were conducted in the belief that a child would be abused somewhere in the world.”

The judge said Anders was “in many ways an inadequate man” who would find prison difficult, but was an “offender of particular concern”.

This means he will serve at least half of his sentence in jail and only be released if a parole board deems he is no longer a risk.

He must serve an extended year on licence, comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sign on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
