Paedophile Shaun Sharp, formerly of Lydd, subjected children to horrific sex abuse

A former Lydd man has been jailed for life for a series of horrific sex attacks on children.

Sadist Shaun Sharp subjected his victims to humiliating abuse involving violence, cruelty and perversions.

The 57-year-old admitted 21 charges on the day he was due to stand trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

But prosecutor Daniel Stevenson said they involved at least 130 incidents of rape or sexual abuse going back more than 10 years.

Bearded Sharp, who has since moved to the West Country, sat impassive as details of the “horrific” attacks were outlined.

Judge Heather Norton said his victims had suffered “life-changing and life shattering” consequences which had robbed them of the childhood.

She said she had listened to “eloquent and heart-breaking “ victim impact statements read to the court on behalf of two of Sharp’s victims, who sat in the public gallery.

Judge Norton said the shocking details of Sharp’s grotesque abuse had stunned “even a judge who is well used to hearing the details of horrific sex attacks.”

Sharp was told that he had shown no remorse or empathy for what he had done – but had tried to blame others for his sordid behaviour.

“This was horrific abuse of children. I have considered whether the seriousness is such that they demand a sentence for life.” Judge Heather Norton

“This was horrific abuse of children. The length and breadth of your offending is such that I have considered whether the seriousness is such that they demand a sentence for life.

“There are some cases, not many, where the gravity of the offending demands the opprobrium of a life sentence and in my view this is one of those cases, “ she added.

Sharp was told he would have to serve at least 10 and a half years before he can even be considered for release – and even then won’t be released until the Parole Board believes it was safe for him to be allowed back into society.

Judge Norton passed life sentences on three of the offences – and a total of 149 years on the other 18 – all to run concurrently.

After Sharp was taken away to the cells, the judge told two of the victims that she couldn’t imagine what they had been through.

She then praised them for showing courage in coming forward saying: “You should be congratulated for that.”

Investigating officer Det Con Paris Cook said: “The offences committed by Shaun Sharp were abhorrent and will linger long in the memories of those he abused.

“He showed a complete disregard for their welfare and clearly poses a significant risk to children. Prison is the best place for him.

“The victims in this case have quite rightly been applauded for having the courage to speak up and report Sharp’s crimes.

“They are an inspiration to other victims of historic sexual abuse and have helped send a strong message that time is no barrier for such offences to be investigated.”

An NSPCC spokesman said: “Sharp subjected his victims to the most terrifying levels of abuse and his wicked actions have had a devastating effect on their lives.

“It takes an enormous amount of courage for abuse victims to speak out about their ordeal but this case shows once again that when they do they are listened to and predators like Sharp can be brought to justice.

“We hope Sharp’s sentence brings his victims some form of closure and that they have received all the support available to help them move forward with their lives.”

Leicester Mercury – Man arrested after allegedly sending indecent images to Letzgo Hunting member posing as child

A video has emerged showing the arrest of a man who allegedly sent explicit images of himself to a girl he believed to be just 13 years old.

The 21-year-old man, understood to be from Leicester, struck up an indecent conversation with the ‘girl’ online.

But the ‘child’ was in fact a member of Letzgo Hunting – a controversial team of self-styled investigators who pose as children in internet chat rooms in order to identify and confront suspected paedophiles.

In the footage, the man is seen initially being confronted by members of Letzgo Hunting while he is at St George’s Retail Park, Leicester. He is then seen being arrested by Leicestershire Police on suspicion of child sex offences.

No charges have yet been brought against the man, who has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The video of the arrest, which happened in April, was posted online this week. The 21-year-old, whose face is blurred in the footage, shows an encounter in which the alleged offender can be heard admitting to a LetzgoHunting member named Paul sending pictures to a girl he believed to be 13.

Earlier this year, a similar sting by Letzgo Hunting led to the imprisonment of 32-year-old Jafar Adeli, of Belgrave, Leicester, who was jailed for 27 months at Leicester Crown Court for attempting to meet a child he had groomed.

Paul: “You’ve been talking online to a 13-year-old girl?”

Man: “Yeah.”

Paul goes on to describe explicit pictures allegedly sent by the man to the ‘girl’, and asks if he remembers suggesting sexual acts in the online chat.

The man replies: “Yeah.”

The man goes on to say it was “a spur of the moment thing”.

When Paul ask s the man why he did not go ahead with a planned meeting he arranged with the girl, he replies: “Because I chickened out. I didn’t want it. Because it was foolish.”

A police officer is then seen handcuffing the man.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police yesterday confirmed the man had been arrested.

She said: “Following an allegation of a sexual offence, a 21-year-old man has been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.”

The Mercury has chosen not to show the video on our website due to the explicit descriptions of the alleged online conversation.

Hinckley Times – Paedophile jailed after vigilante group catch him out

Source: http://www.hinckleytimes.net/news/local-news/paedophile-jailed-after-vigilante-group-9198947

A spokesperson for the group said that he was “pure evil”

An “evil” paedophile who attempted to lure who he believed to be two 14-year-old girls to a hotel room in Hinckley has been locked up.

Peter Hyam, 56, from South Ockendon, was caught by a joint investigation by Leicestershire and Essex police after online paedophile hunters Letz Go Hunting posed as the two youngsters online.

Last week, he was sentenced by Southend Crown Court to 32 months in prison after pleading guilty to arranging to facilitate the commission of a sex offence and making indecent images of minors.

A total of 20 images were found during investigations on Hyam’s computer, all of varying seriousness.

Peter was captured on Christmas Eve last year after booking a hotel for the two teenagers at the Premier Inn, based on Hinckley’s Coventry Road, in January earlier this year.

During the investigation, Letz Go Hunting recorded pages of information and sickening evidence, including graphic messages and images, which Peter believed he had sent to the girls. He also offered to shower the girls with money and presents.

A spokesperson for the group said that he was “pure evil”.

He added: “He’s just vile, he’s a typical child predator. He even tried to bribe the silence of these girls by offering them presents and money.

“He also asked about schoolfriends, he’s a complete scumbag.

“Talking to him, we got alarm bells ringing straight away as within minutes he was all over us.

“We are just peeved that he only got 32 months as he was willing to travel to the ends of the country to meet these two.”

The vigilante-style group, whose members pose as young girls online in a bid to catch out paedophiles, also revealed that they are training to be official private investigators.

They added: “We do what we do to expose a problem more than anything. The police do what we do but not on a great scale.

“We are now training to be private investigators so that we are properly qualified as we think this is now a necessity.

“The stuff we are learning is just wow, especially the parts about how evidence should be collated to see convictions.”
